Evansville students gave gifts to families in need over the holidays.
Regency Beauty Institute campuses always strive to better their communities and share a smile. The Evansville, IN campus chose to spread holiday cheer by adopting five families in need during the holiday season.
The students and staff in Evansville hosted various events that helped raise $700 to purchase gifts. Student council hosted bake sales, taco days, jeans days and a garage sale as part of the two-month fundraiser to give the families the best Christmas possible.
“The students really took off with it,” said Evansville campus manager Kasey S.
This is the beauty school’s second year adopting families for the holidays. This year the families were suggested by a loyal Regency client who works with many of the local homeless shelters. She recommended families that could use a little extra help over the holidays, but who would not reach out to ask for assistance themselves.
“These are families that won’t ever ask for help,” said Kasey. “All the families started crying when they found out [we were sponsoring them].”
Students went out and purchased gifts for the families with the money that was raised. Along with monetary donations, students brought in new and gently used items for the families. Each adopted family has between one to five children, so high-chairs and toys were among the gifts. Most of the mothers did not ask for gifts of their own, so the students made sure to include makeup and beauty products that were picked out just for them.
The campus really thought about what would help the families and make their holidays special. Many of the families don’t have cars to get around, so the students purchased bus passes as part of the gifts.
“They were completely thankful,” Kasey said. “They didn’t realize they were getting as much we ended up giving them.”
