What to advise your virgin-hair clients when they ask about options to mask or embrace their ‘grays’
Gray. It’s the color of storm clouds and that over-sized sweatshirt reserved for Saturday mornings. It’s also the color your clients may start to see more of in their hair as they age. For your virgin hair clients, this may become a bit of a conundrum. They love the natural color of their hair and haven’t felt the need to switch things up.
So, how should you counsel them? Maybe they don’t have the money to support the upkeep an entirely difference color requires, or maybe they’re simply happy with their born color.
One option might be to add a few high and low-lights to complement the gray that comes in naturally. Streaks of gray look especially great with olive or pink skin tones. After all, with age comes both wisdom and beauty.
Another option might be a demi-permanent hair color as recommended by Aloxxi Artistic Advisor Candace Bossendorfer in a recent article on FirstChair.com.
This option works well for clients who want a bit more flexibility than permanent color – even in your client’s natural shade – can provide. That’s where demi-permanent color really shines. The color fades after a few weeks, decreasing her need to maintain a strict color touch-up schedule. If she wants to come in every few weeks to freshen up, great! If not, you presented them with a coloring option that won’t stretch their schedule or their budget. Job well done!
