Tips for World Health Day and a better 2014.

World Health Day 2014 is here, and we want to celebrate a happy, healthy YOU! According to the World Health Organization, “the day provides an opportunity for individuals in every community to get involved in activities that can lead to better health.”

For those of us in the beauty industry, this means staying healthy from the inside out. We put together some tips to keep you feeling your best today and all year long.

 Protect your skin.

Let your skin breathe. Clean your brushes. Never skip the SPF. These are just a few ways you can help keep your skin healthy and radiant. Take a day off from makeup, and give your skin a break. Use this day to get rid of all your old, expired products and deep clean your makeup brushes. While you’re tossing out the old products check that your foundation or moisturizer has SPF. Damage from the sun cause irreversible damage, so stay safe!

Sleep. A lot.

We all love our beauty sleep, but are you getting your full eight hours each night? According to the American Psychological Association, adults need between six and 10 hours of sleep every night to perform at the top of their game. Having a 24/7 lifestyle can throw off your sleep patterns, so keep a regular sleep schedule and a consistent bedtime. If you’re only getting four hours of sleep now, take baby steps. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until you are getting a full eight hours of sleep. Your eyes will look brighter, and your complexion will glow!

Move it.

Whether you start choosing the stairs over the elevator, sign up for Zumba class or begin a high intensity training program – get moving. YouTube is a gold mine of fun workout gurus that create free workout videos. Mix and match webisodes to develop the perfect at-home workout. As a cosmetologist, you’re on your feet.  A lot. Becoming more active can make standing all day that much easier!

Laugh every day.

Laughter is still the best medicine. That’s one of the reasons why it is one of Regency’s guiding principals. Laughter helps keep you physically, mentally and socially healthy.

Surround yourself with happiness.

Being around people who make you happy and doing what you love everyday will keep you healthy from the inside out. Find friends that have positive habits to encourage your healthy lifestyle. Finding the right outlet for your passion can be tough, but when you are a part of the cosmetology industry you are able to share that good mood with your clientele each day.
