Imagine designing a look and refining it for two days before presenting it to an audience that included some of the biggest names in the beauty industry.
Four Regency students didn’t have to. They lived it.
The four students were chosen to compete during Wella’s 2014 Regional TrendVision competition held in Minneapolis, Minnesota. And two Regency students advanced to the next round of competition, Premiere Orlando in June.
For the contestants, the weekend was defined by the creativity they witnessed and expressed.
Model preparation began at 9am, Saturday, April 26 and didn’t end until 4pm. The students cut, colored and edited their looks at the Regency Beauty Institute-Ridgedale campus.
“It was a very creative inspiring day. It really gave the students a great opportunity to work with their models one-on-one,” said Regency Campus Trainer Cheryl H.
Though the TrendVision showcase didn’t begin until 7pm the next day, the students began prepping their models at 10am. They brought their looks to life in a room filled with talent from young designers to Wella creative directors The Doves.
“When you get to watch all of the other designers doing their creations, that just rubs off on you and even inspires you to go a step further,” Cheryl said.
Besides watching as the latest trends in hair were recreated on the runway the Minneapolis’ The Depot, the students gained the personal confidence of presenting their work before an audience filled with talented artists.
This is essential since stylists are in front of an audience even when they are working on the salon floor, according to Cheryl.
“We’re in front of an audience every day, so you have to have that confidence to be able to use the communication skills you have.”
Wella’s TrendVision had over 400 entries this year. The top three were chosen from a field of seven competitors who made it to the stage. Cortnee F. from the Olathe, Kansas campus placed first and Dorlissea P. from the Copperwood, Texas campus placed third. Both advanced to Premiere.
Join us in congratulating these up-and-coming stylists!
