ROUND ROCK, TX, 7-24-2013 — Portia Davis, a licensed cosmetologist, can still remember a time when she was too embarrassed to walk into a hair salon. Davis once diagnosed with alopecia, a condition that causes baldness, now owns her own hair restoration business.
“There are times when women don’t want to go into a salon when they have certain types of hair diseases. I was one of those women,” Davis said.
On July 28, Davis will teach a hair extension class at The Wildside Hairshow Extravaganza hosted at the Omni Hotel in Austin, TX. Davis’ lesson will feature tips about adding hair extensions in just 15 minutes at home. Davis will also be exhibiting her work at a booth during the hair show.
Davis graduated from the Regency Beauty Institute Round Rock campus and began her business Pure by AHD to create a hair styling experience to help women feel safe and confident. AHD stands for Alternate Hair Design.
Through Pure by AHD, Davis offers a range of hair styling including natural hair care, hair replacement, sew-in extensions, fusion, micro-links, tape-in extensions, clip-in extensions, lace wig applications, chemical services, silk press, hair cutting and hair coloring. Davis rents space from the Hair Cottage in Pflugerville, TX.
“It’s a big part of my life,” Davis said. “It’s a way of giving back.”
Davis graduated from cosmetology school on New Year’s Eve in 2011. And, that’s exactly what her hair restoration work offers for so many: A new beginning.
