ARLINGTON, TX, 8-1-2013 — For the third year running, the Regency Beauty Institute cosmetology school campus in Arlington, TX, will host a blood drive to benefit Carter BloodCare. The blood drive will be held Friday, August 2, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The effort began in August 2011 when the campus heard about Alaina Jones, then 2, who was diagnosed with leukemia that June. Campus staff and students sought an opportunity to rally the local community, so on August 2 and August 4, 2011, they hosted a blood drive in honor of Alaina and her family.
With each donation given in Alaina’s name, Carter BloodCare provided the Jones family credit to pay for critically needed transfusions. This year the tradition to host a yearly blood drive continues.
“Arlington has made a promise to this family,” campus manager Christina Brooke said. “We will honor it any way we can. This is important because it teaches our students and staff to be humble, give and ask nothing in return.”
Regency Beauty Institute students, staff and guests who come to the campus for personal care and spa services have signed up to donate blood. Educators like Celeste Stiller have supported the drive and encouraged the students to participate each year. The drive is open to all community members who meet the donor health requirements.
“We try and let the students know there is a need,” Stiller said. “People forget about donating blood.”
In 2011, Arlington donated 28 pints of blood, enough to save 84 lives. In 2012, the campus collected 12 units, and this year the goal is to collect 15.
With each community event, the Regency students always strive to make a difference in someone’s life and act exceptionally.
“They are traits we instill in our students - not because they’re Regency students, but because someday they will be Regency graduates,” Brooke said. “We hope we’ve enriched the quality of their lives as well as their skills in cosmetology.”
The blood drive will be held in the parking lot of Regency Beauty Institute, 1118 West Arbrook, Suite 100, Arlington, Texas. Christina Brooke can be reached for comment at (817) 522-0746.
