MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 7-22-2013 — At this summer’s festivals, the focus won’t just be on the performers. Makeup styles of concert-goers often grab as much attention as acts on the main stage. Even though summertime heat can threaten the staying power of festival-worthy makeup, Regency Beauty Institute graduates know how to help looks last.
Corrie Dubay owns Midwest Makeup Supply in Minneapolis, MN, and regularly supplies products to performers working under hot stage lights. Megan Haase, from Plymouth, MN, creates hair and makeup looks for weddings, many of which also fall during the summer. Both received their cosmetology training at Regency Beauty Institute Twin Cities locations. Dubay studied at the Blaine campus, and Haase studied at the Ridgedale beauty school near Minneapolis.
Festival-goers can get more than a little dewy as the day wears on. To avoid foundation slippage caused by sweat, Haase recommends starting with a mattifying moisturizer and following it up with primer before applying sunscreen and foundation. The primer creates a shield between the skin and any makeup.
Dubay says there’s another way to head off excessive makeup slippage, and it starts with just two beautiful words: waterproof powder. Makeup companies like Kryolan® offer products that can be dusted onto the skin to set foundation and even eye makeup.
“Even if you do sweat a little bit, that makeup is going to stay in place,” Dubay said.
At the rest of the festivals this summer, the sun might not seem like the brightest thing in sight. Dubay’s customers are clamoring for neon-colored products. Haase suggests neon eyeliner in teal, purple, blue or pink.
Chic festival fans know red lipstick is on trend, but might be wary about sporting it all day. Dubay recommends Lip Lock® by Face Atelier. After applying and blotting the lipstick – like Youngblood’s Spicy®– sweep the applicator brush over the lips to add a waterproof finish and prevent color bleed.
Follow makeup tips from Dubay and Haase to score high festival style marks.
